Tottenham HALT talks with AC Milan for defender

Tottenham have reportedly paused talks with Serie A side AC Milan for the transfer of Emerson Royal to the San Siro.

The North London club were approached by AC Milan for the services of the defender, who is keen on leaving the club. According to BBC Sport, AC Milan offered Spurs 10m euros (£8.4m) for the defender, but they swiftly rejected it, as they consider the price too small for Royal.

Ange Postecoglu’s side reportedly values the Brazilian double that initial bid and has paused discussions with Milan. However, AC Milan is not the only club interested in Royal. The 25-year-old is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Although the defender is open to leaving this summer, Tottenham are open to keeping him, yet they have scoured the market for contingency options should he leave.

One player they are considering is Brest defender Bradley Locko. However, Spurs’ priority remains signing a forward after the arrival of midfielders Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. Timo Werner’s loan move from RB Leipzig has also been extended. So far, Lille’s Jonathan David is the primary target in the striker position.

After spending three years at Tottenham, it may be the best time for Emerson Royal to leave. Since joining from Barcelona, the Brazilian has never truly won over the fans. So, a move to Milan will help his career and give him confidence in a world of good.

For Tottenham, who signed Emerson for £25.8 million, getting close to £20 million will represent a good deal for the club. The defender is already considered a second choice at left-back following the success of Pedro Porro in that position last season.
