Manchester United is reportedly close to sealing another huge summer transfer after agreeing to terms with Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils have been busy in this transfer window as the try to build a squad that will change for the Premier League title, after an eighth-place finish last campaign.
So far, they have already signed Dutch attacker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and French defender Leny Yoro from Lille for a combined fee of over £80m. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, their spending is about to increase considerably as they have agreed contract terms with defensive midfielder Ugarte ahead of a move to Old Trafford.
According to the football transfer expert, Ugarte, who has the same agent as Leny Yoro, Jorge Mendes, is keen on moving to United even without Champions League football.
Paris Saint-Germain are competing in the Champions League, but Man United will be playing in the Europa League this season after winning the FA Cup. Yet, the Uruguayan international is open to making that switch to Old Trafford despite the abundance of suitors.
PSG and Man United are in talks to see the deal over the line, with PSG reportedly demanding at least €70 million for the 23-year-old.
WHAT TOP SIX FOOTBALL THINKS
If Manchester United succeeds in signing Manuel Ugarte, they’ll be getting an outstanding player who will improve their team incredibly.
The Uruguayan is among the highest-rated young defensive midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues. Last season, Ugarte made 98 tackles in just 25 Ligue 1 games, the most of any player, and more tackles than any Manchester United midfielder has made in any of the last 18 seasons.
He will likely combine with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in United’s midfield.
