It was only a matter of time before Jurgen Klopp returned to the limelight of football after calling time on his tenure at the Red half of Merseyside.
After winning eight trophies in his close to nine years stay in Liverpool, the German tactician decided to step down as head coach as he sought to take a break from the game he loved.
However, it seems the 57-year-old had had enough of being away from the spotlight and is making a return to the football circle, albeit in a less glamorous role.
On Wednesday morning, it was confirmed that the former Liverpool manager had signed a long-term deal with multi-club company Red Bull as their Global Head of Soccer.
This role will require Klopp to be responsible for the international network of all football clubs at Red Bull, including Leipzig, Salzburg, and the New York Red Bulls.
The German will be required to advise the clubs on coaching matters, playing philosophy, player development, and head coach transfers.
What Klopp said
Speaking in an interview about his new role, Klopp told the Red Bull website: “After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this.
“The role may have changed, but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal.
“There are many ways that we can do this front using the elite knowledge and experience that Red Bull possesses to learn from other sports and other industries.
“Together, we can discover what is possible. I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs but ultimately, I am one part of an organization that is unique, innovative and forward looking.
“As I said, this could not excite me more, the German said effusively.”
Having been a key figure in the adoption of the five-man sub-rule back in 2021,the world of football will be eager to see the changes the German will bring to the Red Bulls company and football at large when his contract began on January 1, 2021.
