Gary Neville explains how Arsenal slump in form can boost for title charge

Gary Neville Arsenal

The former Manchester United and England player believes that Arsenal’s recent poor run of results can give them the edge in the title race.

The Gunners have had the best start to the new season and recently succumbed to another loss in the Premier League in their last outing against Newcastle. The loss takes their run of games without a win to three.

Mikel Arteta’s side has been plagued by injuries since the beginning of the season, but despite the crippling injury issues, Gary Neville believes that Arsenal can finally end their wait for the PL crown in the post-Wenger era.

WHAT NEVILLE SAID

Speaking in his podcast, The Gary Neville Podcast (via Sky Sports), he said:

“I still have them winning the title, and this might be what they need to win the title.

“I might look completely and utterly stupid, and there’ll be people playing this clip in three or four months saying, ‘what the hell were you talking about?’

“I always think about what a team needs to go through to win a title, Manchester City aren’t quite right, Liverpool aren’t perfect- sometimes you need this little bit of a serious slip”.

“It’s been a poor start from them really in terms of where we’ve expected them to be but they could get the players back post-international break and go on a run. It could be dangerous towards March, April, May.”

He  added; “There is an element of Arsenal feeling a bit sorry for themselves that they’ve got a few injuries. We’re not interested. Come on. You can win the league title”.

“This is where you become a hero. It’s where you become Arsenal legends. No one’s interested in whether you’ve got a few injuries for a part of the season. Those players will come back. Don’t wait for them. That’s when you really want to be flying. “

WHAT TOP SIX SAYS

Arsenal were agonizingly close to winning the league title last season, but they narrowly missed out by two points to City.

It appears that things will get even worse this season, as Arteta has had no better luck with injuries this term.

However, Martin Odegaard’s imminent return will be a huge relief to the 42-year-old Spaniard, as Arsenal have just not looked the same without his talismanic presence.
