Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has aimed a cheeky dig at his Premier League rivals.

The Australian has continued to deliver mixed results for the North London side and has remained defiant even in the face of an injury crisis in defence.

His Spurs side has won just six out of 13 Premier League games this season, losing five and drawing two, the latest being a 1-1 draw against Fulham last Sunday.

Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies started the game at the heart of the defence for the third game in a row, with first-choice defensive pairing Cristian Romero and Van de Ven both unavailable due to injury.

However, Ange Postecoglou has chosen not to blame his team’s performances on injuries and used the opportunity to take a swipe at rivals who use injuries as an excuse for poor results.

What Postecoglou said

“I’ve seen so much violin-playing over [other teams having] one centre-back out, but we’re just supposed to get on with it,’ Postecoglou said.

Benny and Radu have been outstanding throughout this spell.

“I mean there aren’t too many teams in the league who have both their centre-backs out. The beauty of it is these boys are, and I love that.

“I love the characters they’re showing. I love the fact that they’re not seeking excuses or wanting me to make allowances for it.

“But at some point, I need to also acknowledge the massive effort that all these guys are putting in. Radu and Ben were outstanding again.”

What Top Six says

It is unclear which teams Postecoglou was referring to, but with Arsenal and Manchester City having attributed their struggles this season to injury to key players such as Martin Odegaard and Rodri, respectively, it is likely that the Australian was referring to the two Premier League powerhouses.

Tottenham finds themselves in seventh place after dropping points at the Tottenham  Hotspur Stadium.

With the club set to face Bournemouth on Thursday, Postecoglou will be hoping that his makeshift defensive pairing can keep out the stubborn Cherries.
