Eintracht Frankfurt complicates Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool deal

Eintracht Frankfurt has made a move that could potentially end Liverpool’s interest in Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds’ interest in the French striker has been well documented.

However, it appears as though Eintracht Frankfurt are determined to frustrate any suitors this summer.

Liverpool will have a need for a striker this summer, and Ekitike has been named as a potential ideal candidate to lead the club’s attack next season.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season in the Bundesliga and Europa League, scoring 21 goals across all competitions.

A standout moment came in Frankfurt’s recent 1-1 draw against Tottenham in the Europa League quarter-finals, where he curled a precise finish past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

One could argue Ekitike’s younger age and lower wage demands still make him a more pragmatic target than a player like 25-year-old Alexander Isak, who is quoted as likely to cost Liverpool over £120 million.

However, the latest report from Sky Germany suggests that Eintracht Frankfurt consider the 22-year-old in the same breath as Isak.

Having signed the French forward for only €20 million, Frankfurt is poised to make a substantial profit should their asking price be met.

The Bundesliga club remains confident of securing this fee following Ekitike’s outstanding performances this season.

A recent report by Bild confirmed that Frankfurt now wants a staggering €90-100 million if they are to part ways with the Frenchman in the summer.

Sky Germany has now confirmed Bild’s position, with journalist Florian Plettenberg corroborating the initial story.

“Eintracht Frankfurt have raised the price tag for Hugo Ekitike,” the journalist wrote on X.

“Markus Krösche is now demanding at least €100m as a transfer fee. Most recently, #SGE had been expecting a fee of around €80m.

“Eintracht are still preparing for his departure this summer, with the 22 y/o striker likely to leave. Contract until 2029.”

The increase in Hugo Ekitike’s valuation is attributed to his continued development following the departure of his strike partner, Omar Marmoush, to Manchester City during the winter transfer window.
