Chelsea outbid Liverpool with £48 million for Romeo Lavia

Chelsea wants Romeo Lavia ahead of Liverpool

Chelsea is set to hijack Liverpool’s bid for Romeo Lavia after the Blues made a stunning entrance into the race for the Belgian midfielder with a £48 million offer, Daily Mail reveals.

Southampton has insisted they will only sell the teenager for around £50 million, which means Chelsea’s offer will likely be rejected, but Liverpool has already made three bids for his signature and failed to go past £45 million.

The Reds have sold Fabinho and Jordan Henderson after both players decided to accept big-money transfers to Saudi Arabia and were expected to be replaced by the Merseyside club.

To the surprise of their fans and pundits, they are still not serious about adding Lavia to their squad and have refused to meet Soton’s asking price, even though the Belgian is one of the finest midfielders in England.

Chelsea’s search for midfielders

Chelsea has been struggling to sign Moises Caicedo in the last few weeks and seems to have turned their attention towards landing Lavia, which makes it interesting.

Soton will love this battle as it now means they are likely to get what they want for the former Manchester City trainee, but it will come as a bitter blow to Liverpool, who have lost at least four midfielders this season and signed just two.
