Tottenham plot a late swoop for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, with Ange Postecolgue targetting midfield reinforcements this summer.

The transfer window slams shut in less than 48 hours, and Tottenham are in a frantic search for a new midfielder that will replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who will likely depart to Atletico Madrid on loan.

The Danish international is said to be discussing a possible loan move to the Spanish capital, and Spurs want a ready replacement should he depart.

They have identified Gallager as the ideal candidate to replace Hojbjerg. The 23-year-old, who captained Chelsea against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night, is aware of Tottenham’s interest. According to reports, he wants to remain at Chelsea but is open to moving, given his limited chances at Stamford Bridge.

However, Spurs have yet to make a formal approach as they are waiting to confirm midfield departures.

But the North London side are not the only side interested in Gallagher. Brighton have also shown interest in the England international. The Seagulls are bringing in Ansu Fati from Barcelona today on loan, but Gallagher remains of interest if they could agree on a financial package.

Gallagher has started all of Chelsea’s Premier League games under Mauricio Pochettino, partnering Enzo Fernandez and new £115m man Moises Caicedo in the engine room.
