Manchester United SET TO unveil Tottenham left back as new loan signing

Manchester United Sergio Reguilon

Manchester United are close to signing Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur, with the defender joining on a season-long loan.

The Red Devils are light at left-back after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. They had initially planned to sign Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. But the. Blues’ insistence that United must pay a £7m loan fee spoilt the deal.

Cucurella also featured for Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, meaning he would be ineligible to play for United in the competition if he joined. Because of these complications, the Red Devils quickly moved for Reguilon, who was initially one of the players earmarked to cover the position in Shaw’s absence.

United are concerned that the Englishman could be out for around two months because of a muscle injury.

Meanwhile, according to The Athletic, Reguilon has already done his medicals at that club, with Spurs and United already in agreement over the loan deal. The deal will include a break clause in the contract, meaning that the 26-year-old can be sent back to north London once Shaw and Malacia are fit.

The Spaniard joined Tottenham from Real Madrid in 2020 and has made 67 appearances for the north London club. He could be available for United as they take on Arsenal at the Emirates this Sunday.
