Arsenal is eyeing a January swoop for a banned Premier League striker

Arsenal is reportedly interested in a move for banned Premier League striker Ivan Toney, with the Englishman expected to return to competitive action in January.

Toney has missed all this season and will be out for the first half of the campaign after the FA banned him for breaking betting rules.

Before his ban, he was one of the best strikers in the Premier League and had been tipped to leave Brentford for a top club in the last transfer window.

The ban meant no club came near him, but Arsenal and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the former Newcastle United man.

A Daily Mail report is now claiming that Arsenal could add him to their group in January to solve their goalscoring problems.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have not scored enough goals for the North Londoners and Mikel Arteta is prepared to splash the cash again on a new front-man.

Toney is one of the finest players in England and is expected to continue performing well when he returns from his ban. He knows the next year is his best chance to play for a top club and Brentford are prepared to allow the player who fired them to Premier League promotion to leave for the right price.
