Latest Liverpool signing Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed how Jurgen Klopp convinced him to move to Anfield this summer through a phone call.
Szoboszlai became Liverpool’s second signing of the summer transfer window as he joined the club in a £60m deal, signing on a five-year contract.
The Hungarian international has taken up the club’s iconic Number 8 shirt, formerly won and made popular by Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to Sportal.hu, the 22-year-old outlined the discussions with Klopp during a video call while on holiday.
Szoboszlai hailed Klopp’s determination to secure his exit from Leipzig and labelled his new manager as ‘amazing’.
“Obviously, I won’t reveal what was said during the video call, but I can say that I was very reassured by that conversation,” Szoboszlai said.
“In addition to being one of the best coaches in the world, he is also absolutely overwhelming as a person. He is amazing; it was a kind of ‘chill’ conversation.
“We talked as if we had known each other for a thousand years. I can’t wait to start working together,” he added.
Liverpool beat off competition from Newcastle to sign the attacking midfielder despite not playing in the Champions League. Szoboszlai also insisted that joining the Reds was a ‘childhood dream’ come true.
“As I said before, my childhood dream came true; I couldn’t have hoped for more at the age of 22,” he continued.
“I am at the top of club football, but every day there is a new goal, and it is an amazing motivation to be part of this club, to play for trophies.
“In the next ten to twelve years, I want to stay at the level I have reached now, and I also want to constantly improve myself and become a better and better football player. This is my goal right now,” he added.
