RB Leipzig confirm talks with Manchester City over £86m deal for Croatian defender

Manchester City are edging closer to the signing of Josko Gvardiol after RB Leipzig revealed that the treble winners are looking to sign the defender.

City were rumoured to be interested in Gvardiol, with Pep Guardiola a huge fan of the 22-year-old. And now, their interest has been confirmed by RB Leipzig’s sporting director, who stated that the two clubs are negotiating to finalise a blockbuster deal.

Although Leipzig had been resistant to selling the Croatia central defender, he has told them of a desire to leave for the Etihad Stadium this summer.

The Bundesliga side wants £86 million plus additional clauses for Gvardiol, and City is willing to pay.

“We are in talks with Man City,” Leipzig’s Max Eberl said via Sportsmail.

“For €100m plus add-ons, Josko will end up in Pep’s strong hands. This would make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in history.”

“I can confirm that Josko Gvardiol and his agents told us about their desire to move to Man City,’ he added.

Gvardiol plays in a similar position to Aymeric Laporte, who could be allowed to leave the club this summer.
