Liverpool submit a £37m bid for Romeo Lavia, but Southampton REJECT it

Liverpool have made their first official bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The Reds are among several clubs interested in signing Lavia from the relegated Southampton side. They have been holding discussions with the player’s agent for several weeks.

But according to reports, Liverpool has now submitted a £37m bid for the Belgian midfielder, who is one of their major summer targets.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has claimed that Southampton has rejected the bid from Liverpool. The Saints are holding on to £50m for their prized asset. They value the 19-year-old very highly and do not want to lose him for cheap despite buying him for just €12.30m from Manchester City last year.

With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson expected to leave Liverpool this summer, the Reds are looking for a specialist defensive midfielder to add to their ranks.

Meanwhile, despite Southampton rejecting the deal, sources close to Liverpool believe the deal will still happen as the player wants to move to Anfield.

Lavia made 29 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season. Despite their relegation, he was one of the stand-out players in the Siants’ team.
