Tottenham REJECTED: Barcelona wonderkid chooses Brighton over Spurs

Tottenham Ansu Fati

Tottenham have missed out on the chance to sign Ansu Fati after the Barcelona starlet chose to join Roberto de Zerbi’s Brighton side.

Spurs were interested in signing Fati on loan and were discussing the deal’s structure with Barcelona. They were confident of getting the deal over the line, with the Spanish international seen as an ideal attacking option to replace Harry Kane.

But in a surprise twist, the 20-year-old decided to join Brighton instead after being convinced by Brighton’s style and the coaching of Roberto de Zerbi.

According to Fabrizio Romano, he will travel to England on Thursday for his medical before putting pen to paper on a one-year loan deal without an obligation to buy. Fati still wants to play for Barcelona and hopes to figure for the Catalan side again next season.

The 20-year-old, who has nine caps for Spain, is regarded as one of Barcelona’s most promising talents. He won La Liga with Barca last season, scoring seven goals in 36 league matches. However, he has fallen down the pecking order with their array of attacking talent and the emergence of 16-year-old Lamine Yamal.

Fati’s father, Bori Fati, has been pushing for his son to leave Camp Nou, and Brighton has won the race for his signature over Chelsea and Spurs.

Tottenham will turn their attention to Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson.
