Manchester United and Chelsea set to BATTLE it out for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea will reportedly compete for the signature of Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, who could cost over £50million.

The Brazilian international has impressed during his time in Italy, winning Serie A Defender of the Year in 2021-22 and earning three caps for the national team.

However, Juventus are willing to sell him this summer, as they are set for a summer rebuild, having missed out on Champions League football this season.

Man United are looking to sign a defender this summer, with Napoli’s defender Kim Min-jae one of their primary targets. But the South Korean is looking increasingly likely to join Bayern Munich this summer, having been enticed by the project in Bavaria.

As such, Erik ten Hag’s side has turned their attention to Bremer, according to Calciomercato via Sportsmail.

The 26-year-old is a versatile right-sided centre-back who made 30 league appearances for Juventus last season after signing from their local rivals Torino, where he spent four years.

Like Man United’s Lisandro Martinez, Bremer is also a centre-half who is good with the ball and can pass out from the back. His addition will boost Ten Hag’s backline as they attempt to compete for the Premier League title next season. The Red Devils remain interested in Monaco’s Axel Disasi, but Bremer is seen as the preferred option of the two.

However, Man United aren’t alone in their interest in Bremer, as Chelsea are also monitoring the situation. New Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino is attempting to mould his new squad into his own image and fancies Bremenr.

The former Tottenham boss wants to trim the bloated squad and recruit players who can carry out his footballing philosophy.
