Manchester United have returned to the negotiating table for Inter Milan goalkeeper after tabling a new £43m offer for the shot-stopper.
The Red Devils have made Onana their number one target to fill in their vacant goalkeeper position after they released David de Gea.
United initially saw the Spanish goalie as the undisputed number one at Old Trafford after he won the Premier League Golden Glove last season. The club were willing to offer him a new deal and De Gea was satisfied with the offer United presented.
However, United coach Erik ten Hag changed his mind and decided he wants a new goalkeeper he can trust and has identified Onana, whom he knows from his time at Ajax, as the man to operate between the post next season.
United offered Inter £38.5m in their first proposal, but the San Siro side deemed it insufficient to price their goalkeeper away from the club. And according to Fabrizio Romano, United has returned with an improved bid of £38.5m with just over £4m in add-ons.
Although Inter wants around £45m for the 27-year-old, who they signed for free last summer, there is growing optimism the two clubs will reach an agreement despite United not matching that offer.
Also, given Onana’s relationship with Ten Hag and his desire to move to Old Trafford, agreeing on personal terms is expected to be easy.
